PSG Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
