Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team opted for a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at Turn Four during the early running.
The Japanese spun out over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, over half a second behind the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
