The Soldiers Table Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Motivations for Departure
First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team access locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
- Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists groups.
Viewers can look forward to learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
